KNOW YOUR HAIR
Manners makes a man but hair makes a woman might sound very strange at first, but after reading this blog you may change your view of hair. Women are beautiful and hair is beautiful and every woman loves beautiful hair. Hair is not unique to humans, but it is one of the defining characteristic of humans. However, humans are the only species that takes so much pride and placed so much emphases and spends so much time grooming their hair, in fact no expense is spared. Humans are probably the only mammal on the face of God's green earth that can be classified as naked, having the bulk of their hair concentrated on their scalps. In furry mammals their hair is called fur and covers virtually their entire bodies. In large mammals it is called a pelt but in pigs its called bristle. Regardless of what we call it, essentially hair serves the same purpose - protection. Protection against the outside cold, protection against sunstroke and protection against bodily heat loss. But vanity has turned the "hair playing field" into a completely new ball game. A focus on self-image has even made hair the object of prejudice for many. Hence the phrase "Bad hair day" has been coined.Keratin is a protein, to be more precise it is a scleroproteins and can be found in our skin and is the main structural component of our hair and nails. Our skin is considered to be an an organ, which incidentally is the largest organ of the body. This simply implies that a healthy skin is key to healthy hair and nails. Another significance of skin or at least, the colour of our skin defines the type and volume and type of keratin in our hair. Because each and every one of us has a different skin colour resulting in too many shades to categorize, we can loosely be divided into four groups viz, Yellow skin, Brown skin, Light skin and Dark skin, which as we all know isn't exactly true. Whereas Keratin can also be categorized in several groups but for ease it is roughly divided into two - Basic/ Natural Keratin and Acidic Keratin.
Scleroproteins are structural proteins or rather storage proteins that tend not to denature, are inert and insoluble in water. They are the building blocks that make-up hair that constantly repeats itself. Looking at
hair, there are also several hair types with far too many to categorize thus we subdivide hair into three basic categories based on its cross section, viz:- round hair, oval hair and flat hair. But more about that later.
